Incident 68587 - A 26-year-old Texas man was impaled in the groin with a trekking pole while crossing Snowmass Creek in Colorado

An nearby individual who happened to be an off-duty paramedic activated the SOS on his inReach device after coming across the incident. The 26-year-old male explained that he was attempting to cross the creek when he lost his footing, causing the pole to impale him. The paramedic was able to assist the male and activate the SOS button on his inReach device.

Search and Rescue Coordinators at the IERCC notified Pitkin County emergency dispatch who dispatched CareFlight of the Rockies helicopter to the location. The man was evacuated to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs
