Incident 64144 - Rising water strands couple in a tree during trek in New Zealand

by GEOS IERCC Duty Officer on February 02, 2020

A couple in their 50’s had to be rescued after flash flood waters left them stranded in a tree. The duo was out trekking in a remote area of New Zealand, and were forced to take shelter in a tree to avoid being swept away by the rising waters. When the IERCC received an SOS from their inReach device, they notified the NZ Joint Rescue Command Center who dispatched a helicopter that successfully transported the couple to a safe location with no reported injuries.
